In a commendable effort to foster cricket talent among the youth, East Enders Sports Hub has taken the lead in organizing a 10-day cricket skills clinic in Jinja. The cricket skills clinic , running from the 15th to the 23rd, exclusively caters to participants under the age of 17, aiming to enhance their skills and discover new talent within the Busoga region.
Kicking off at Kivubuka Primary School, the camp focuses on providing young cricketers with valuable guidance and training. Afternoon sessions are held at Jinja SSS, creating a conducive environment for skill development and promoting the sport in the region.
Parents express their joy in seeing their children actively engaged in sports during the holiday period. The initiative not only brings excitement but also offers youngsters the opportunity to learn and embrace a sport like cricket as part of their growth.
The head of cricket, Oyaga Sadam, at the hub extends gratitude to key contributors, including the Uganda Cricket Association, Cricket Without Boundaries, Busoga Today, Assurety, and other stakeholders, acknowledging their support in advancing the growth of cricket in the Nile region.
The success of the camp is attributed to a dedicated coaching team, including Oyaga Sadam, Agaba Eddy, Ssekatawa Isaac, and Aaron Kusasira. These coaches have been instrumental in shaping the game in various villages of Busoga, contributing to the overall success of the cricket initiative.
As the camp unfolds, East Enders Sports Hub is gearing up for a significant milestone—a trip to Gulu to participate in the inaugural U18 Girls’ Inter-Hub Tournament scheduled for January 24th-29th, 2024, at St. Joseph’s College Layibi. The goal is to identify a team that will commence preparations for the U19 Women’s World Cup qualifiers set for August in Rwanda.
Looking beyond the camp, East Enders Sports Hub plans to host a series of events throughout the year, building on the momentum gained since its inception in the last quarter of 2022 and throughout 2023.
